PRL-2SC Wireless Pulse Link

PRL-2SC Wireless Pulse Link

The PRL-2SC wireless pulse link is a low-cost, single-channel, point-to-point system with one transmitter and one receiver for short- hop pulse applications.  Typically, these are parking lots, fields, roads, railroad tracks or anywhere where it is difficult to get a hardwired KYZ pulse from the meter.  The PRL-2SC is a self-contained, Form A (2-wire), Line-of-Sight system capable of transmitting pulse information up to about 1 mile depending on topography and particulars of the mounting locations and space in between.  Using Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) technology allows excellent reliability and rejection of any other noise sources. There are 6 selectable channels.  Each channel incorporates 50 of the 64 possible frequencies within the 900 MHz band. The same channel is selected on both the transmitter and receiver.  Other PRL systems within the same radio airspace (~2-4 mile radius) will need to be assigned a different channel number. The Transmitter and Receiver are “paired” such that the Receiver will only accept meter pulse data from its specified Transmitter.

The PRL-2SC transmits 1 Form A (2-Wire) pulse in the continuous or real-time operating mode. In continuous mode, transmissions occur continuously about 10 times a second.  Approximately 5 pulses per second are possible, which is adequate for most pulse applications. Continuous mode is designed to make the output pulses mirror the input pulse to the greatest extent possible.

The PRL-2SC Wireless Pulse Link system consists of one PRT-2SC Transmitter and one PRR-2SC Receiver. The system operates in the 900MHz band and is FCC pre-certified, thus allowing unlicensed operation by the user. The PRL-2SC will transmit pulses up to 5,000 to feet in a line-of-sight (LOS) configuration. Distances vary with the terrain, obstacles and greater elevation above the ground.

PRT-2SC PULSE RADIO TRANSMITTER UNIT
The PRT-2SC Pulse Radio Transmitter unit is self-contained and available in a small 4” x 4” x 2” NEMA 4X rainproof enclosure.  The PRT-2SC contains the radio transceiver, antenna and low voltage power supply, generating a +9VDC sense (wetting) voltage. The sense voltage is connected to pulse sending devices, typically an electric meter’s KYZ pulse initiator. Each time a pulse is received by the PRT-2SC, it validates the pulse width and transmits the pulse to the Receiver. Propagation delay is very short so the pulse output at the Receiver closely resembles the pulse widths received from the meter. The PRT-2SC can be operated from a +12 to +60VDC, or 10 to 48VAC voltage source.   Alternately the PRT-2SC can be operated using the SSI SPS-2 solar power supply.

PRR-2SC PULSE RADIO RECEIVER UNIT

The PRR-2SC Pulse Radio Receiver unit is self-contained and housed in a small 4” x 4” x 2” NEMA 4X rainproof enclosure.  The PRR-2SC contains the radio transceiver, antenna and low voltage power supply.

One Form A pulse output channel is available.  The PRR-2SC is intended to be mounted outdoors, in direct line-of-sight with the PRT-2SC transmitter radio/antenna unit and should not be obstructed by trees, buildings or other objects. Each time a pulse is received from the PRT-2SC, the Receiver validates this pulse and outputs it to the output terminals.  An encoded FHSS communication scheme is used to ensure the accurate number of pulses are sent and received. The PRR-2SC consumes extremely low power and can be operated from a +12 to +60VDC or 10 to 48VAC voltage source. The pulse rate is up to 5pps (Form A). Alternately the PRT-2SC can be operated using the SSI SPS-2 solar power supply.
